SUMMARY:October 14\, 2024\, TRAG General Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Program: Bring-your-own art swap\nBring a piece of your art (in a brown bag) for an art swapping game.  Everyone who brings a piece will go home with something new.  We are really excited to see the kind of giftable art our members are creating.   If you would like to participate please bring an art or print item worth at least $15 and must fit inside a brown grocery or lunch size bag.  Don’t forget to drop a business card in the bag so we know whose art we have gotten.  Do you have greeting cards? Small ceramic pieces? Magnets? Stickers? Small prints? Puzzles? Tiny paintings? Older pieces that fit in the bag?  If you are operating your art practice as a business it is a great idea to have smaller items like these at giftable price points\, especially as the Christmas season approaches.  There will be refreshments and time to chat after the game so we can meet the artists\, ask questions about our art finds\, and just mingle.\n

SUMMARY:July 8\, 2024\, TRAG General Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Program: \nMusical Chairs(Art) activity – We will be creating collaborative artworks for our OCFOTA silent Auction.  Bring your creativity as we paint\, draw\, write\, and pass art pieces around at our July membership meeting.  This activity will be free to participate in with all materials being supplied\, but please feel free to bring your own materials if there is something you prefer to work with.  We will provide acrylic paint\, colored pencils\, markers\, acrylic pens\, pastels\, and oils pastels. There will be 10-15 panels\, canvases\, and mounted paper for painting\, drawing\, and mixed media activities.  Each artist will get about 5 minutes to add to the piece before they pass along the canvas to the next person.  Think musical chairs\, but with art and nobody gets “out”.  All pieces will be auctioned off at the Oregon City Festival of the Arts Silent Auction in August.\nCathy Rowe\nTRAG Vice-President\n

SUMMARY:February 12\, 2024\, TRAG General Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Program\n \nSupportive Art Critique!\nMembers: Bring 1-2 pieces for a constructive\, interactive\, and thoughtful review from your peers (work in progress is great).\nThe presentation will start with a short “How to” on how best to critique another artist’s work in a supportive way. How to critique without being critical. Also\, what kind of things do galleries and shows look at when critiquing your work? How do we take this experience of critically thinking about others work to look critically at our own work. Cathy Rowe will present.\nWe will then have a show-and-tell where anyone that wishes to may show their piece (works-in-progress are great) to get feedback from those present. We will try to limit the time per person to 5-10 minutes each depending on how many people bring in work. Please only bring 2 pieces if the second piece is in some way important to the viewing or explanation of the first piece\, such as: the beginning of a series\, a shift in style or niche\, or a reference to past work.\n

SUMMARY:May 8th\, 2023 Guild Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Meeting Agenda\nTo be announced later.\n \nProgram: writing compelling artist statements\nSusan Schenk will present a workshop on writing compelling artist statements\nAn artist’s statement tells others about you and your work. Writing one is a powerful exercise for articulating your passion and art. But\, it also a challenge to capture in words what is often so hard to express and intangible. No matter your medium or level of proficiency\, a good statement is a useful tool.\nIn this workshop\, you will be guided through a series of questions to gather information to create a sophisticated artist’s statement\, and to deepen your thinking about your own art making. If you are happy with your current artist’s statement\, then write a statement for the fabulous artist you aspire to be\, so that you can set that intention into the universe. Or\, answer the questions as preparation for when you are interviewed for a national artist’s publication.\n

DESCRIPTION:Meeting Agenda\nOpening Remarks: Welcomed to all members and visitors.\nSecretary Report: Cathy Rowe\nPresentation of March minutes\nTreasurer’s report: Nancy Graham\nMembership report: Sue Thomas\nCo-Vice President report: Jeanne Kelley-Brown and Melissa Gannon\nEvents: Lynda Orzen\nSpring Fling and Oregon City Festival of the Arts\nVolunteer Coordinator: Kerry Edwards\nOld Business:\nVote on Membership Increase.\nAs per TRAG Bylaws\, this information needs to be placed for 2 consecutive months in the newsletter. In the Fall of 2022\, the membership dues for individuals were raised but other membership dues remained the same – an oversight! Dues will be $50 for families or two people living at the same address and $20 for students. This is a $10 raise in both categories.\nNew Business\nDiscussed at the March meeting was having a new membership for businesses. The purpose would be to have businesses in a supporter category. Still discussing what the rate for the new category would be and how we would present them for events.\n \nProgram: selling your art\nMelissa Gannon will present ideas about selling your art. Topics will include: tuning into artists who are doing what you want to do via websites\, podcasts and classes\, applying to galleries and shows\, looking for grants\, print on demand sites\, taking stock of your unique skill set and thinking of ways that you can offer a product or service.\n

SUMMARY:November 14th\, 2022 Guild Meeting
DESCRIPTION:There are life coaches\, financial advisors\, fitness trainers and therapists all eager to guide you to a better life. They’re eager to multiply your assets\, diminish your vulnerabilities and coach you toward your goals. When it comes to our lives as artists\, however\, the professional coach pool is a little cloudy. If you search “art coach” you will find dozens of options. Their services range from “clearing your negative energy” to “how to make millions as an art entrepreneur.”\nMaybe we need to do a little self-assessment before we even think about handing over money to have someone just listen to us. At the TRAG meeting\, we’ll figure out if we need a coach\, you’ll meet a coach and be a coach as we get clear on where we each are and where we want to go.\nSusan Schenk\nTRAG member
