Artist statement
Joanne Cavallaro is a Vancouver, Washington – based abstract artist whose expressive, intuitive work invites viewers into a world of color, movement, and emotion. Since relocating to Vancouver in 2019, Joanne has become an active member of the Pacific Northwest arts community, with her work featured in galleries throughout the greater Portland area and Clark County.
She one of three women artists who opened Gallery 408 in Camas Washington.
An active member of the Society of Washington Artists in Vancouver,
Joanne was honored with third place in one of the society’s juried exhibitions. Her work has continued to gain recognition, earning first place and an honorable mention at the inaugural Vancouver Arts and Music Festival — an achievement that affirmed her growing impact in the Pacific Northwest arts community.
Beyond her studio practice, Joanne is deeply committed to using art as a tool for giving back.
She frequently donates her work to charitable causes, especially those that support community initiatives. She has been honored to contribute to the Cascade AIDS Project’s Spring Event for several years. Joanne also finds joy in arts education, having participated in SWWA Center for the Arts’ “Uplift!” Children’s Day of Art and Giving, where she helped introduce young people to the creative process. For Joanne, these opportunities to give back are among the most fulfilling aspects of her creative journey.
Working in abstraction allows Joanne to explore the inner landscapes of the human experience
– joy, sorrow, resilience, and hope — and to invite viewers to find their own stories within her compositions. For her, creating art is both a personal reflection and a shared offering. It is her way of building community and contributing to something meaningful.
Joanne is profoundly grateful to be part of a diverse and generous artistic community. Her journey as an artist is fueled by curiosity, connection, and a desire to make a meaningful difference —one inspirational piece at a time.
